Custodial history

Item was from the collection of the late Frederick G. Ruffner, Jr., founder of Gale Research, Detroit.

Scope and content

Item is a satirical print depicting chaotic figures wreaking havoc in a bookshop. An older man dressed in black confronts a large, rotund man about a book, while another man on a stool, facing the bookshelves lining the walls, flings several books into the air. At the foot of the stool, a bystander cowers as the books fall, and in the nook of the lefthand corner of the composition, a large woman drinks at a table.
