Fonds reflects the development and evolution of the Mount Royal University's School of Nursing and Midwifery and the academic programs it offered. MRC - evaluation of the Nursing Program/ nursing graduates - related correspondence

File discusses reports regarding nursing student surveys and nursing program assessments. File contains correspondence, memoranda, draft questionnaires, a program evaluation operational report, a final graduate survey report prepared by Planning and Development, and an executive summary of an Allied Health Department program assessment.


Subseries documents the early history of the Diploma Nursing Program. Subseries contains books written about the program, as well as correspondence, newspaper clippings, and questionnaires.

Calgary Conjoint Nursing Program

Series illustrates the development and administration of the Calgary Conjoint Nursing Program, which was an educational partnership between Mount Royal College, the University of Calgary, and the Foothills Hospital School of Nursing. Series contains: correspondence, memoranda, minutes, agendas, committee reports, program development research, curriculum development documentation, budget calculations and financial statements, polices, procedures, handbooks and manuals, survey results, program brochures, newspaper clippings, and journal articles.

Series is arranged into five subseries: Councils and committees, Course outlines and syllabi, Program and curriculum development, Reports and publications, and Manuals, guidelines, and handbooks.

Special interest groups and committees

File documents the meetings and work of several special interest groups and committees such as: CCNP Psychiatric Mental Health Specialty group; Health Care Specialty Group; CCNP Pediatric Nursing Instructors Group; CCNP Perinatal Group; Community Health; Gerontological Nursing Curriculum Group; Teaching-Learning Strategies Committee; Computer Advisory Committee; and CCNP Logo Committee. File contains minutes, correspondence, notes, news releases, proposed course descriptions, reports, and journal articles.

Minutes and course outlines - volume 4

File contains agendas, course planning and full faculty meeting minutes, minutes of the Admissions Committee; Student Academic Review Committee; Advisory Committee;Program Committee; Student Faculty Liaison Committee; lists of class schedules, course descriptions, course outlines and syllabi, guidelines, and program objectives.


File contains correspondence, draft infrastructure planning documents, recommendations for collaborative policies and procedures, a first draft of the conjoint nursing program proposal, a project overview, and a job description. The file also contains charts comparing the policies, collective agreements, instructor workloads, evaluation processes, faculty selection procedures, administrative responsibilities, and decision making processes for the three conjoint nursing institutions.

File contains agendas, minutes, correspondence, notes, program evaluation forms, procedures, draft master course maps, submissions for an annual report, blank annual self-reports, conditions of approval from the Nursing Education Program Approval Board, and a workflow map. File also contains venue information, requests for fund transfers, and menus for a professional development event.


Series documents the activities nursing alumni associations and the planning special events. Series contains photographs, correspondence, membership lists, financial records, event invitations and responses, and administrative records.

Universities Coordinating Council

Subseries documents the interactions of Mount Royal's nursing faculty with the Nursing Education Survey Team (NEST), a body of the Universities Coordinating Council Committee on Nursing Education (UCCCNE). The Universities Coordinating Council (UCC) was created in 1966 under the Universities Act to serve as an advisory body to the Minister of Education on matters of new program approvals. NEST was first formed in 1961 by the Minister of Health for the purpose of bringing recommendations related to the training of nurses and the development of new programs to increase the supply of nurses and maintain a high level of nursing standards in the province. The authority to make regulations regarding nursing education became the purview of the UCC through the Registered Nurses Act. Subseries contains correspondence, memoranda, self-evaluations, appraisal reports, annual reports, survey results, program and course information, and NEST recommendations.

Canadian Nurses Association correspondence - file 1

File mainly consists of correspondence between the chairman of Mount Royal's Department of Nursing and Allied Health and the Canadian Nurses Association. File contains annual surveys on the salary and educational qualifications of nursing faculty in diploma nursing programs, questionnaires on nursing education issues, survey response reports, a national plan for nursing administration in Canada, a report on nursing in Canada, information on developing an accreditation program for nursing education, a report on standards for nursing education in Canada, and a list of general entrance requirements to schools of nursing by province.
