Military medals

Object is a shadow box containing military medals from World War I and World War II. The top row contains the following medals awarded to Gordon Purdy: the Military Medal (MM), British War Medal, Victory Medal (Inter-Allied War Medal), Canadian Efficiency Decoration, War Medal 1939-1945, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
The second row contains medals issued to Gordon Purdy's son, Douglas Gordon Purdy: The 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
The case also contains a small silver plaque which states: " Capt. D.G. Purdy/Calg.R./Died in his country's service/19 Aug. 1942"

Miss Cavell - Fusillée par les Allemands à Bruxelles - le 12 Octobre 1915

Item is an original World War I poster, printed in Paris, depicting British nurse, Edith Cavell. Cavell taught and practised nursing in Belgium and helped soldiers escape back to Britain when the Germans invaded. When Cavell was arrested, imprisoned, and executed for her work she became an iconic propaganda figure for military recruitment in Britain.

Missal leaf

Item is a leaf (folio XXXVII) from a missal, possibly printed by the Leipzig printer Konrad Kachelofen or his son-in-law Melchior Lotter. Leaf features a historiated initial and text in black and red. A missal is a liturgical text that contains instructions and texts required for celebrating Mass.

Moralia in Job fragment

Item is a fragment of a leaf from the Moralia in Job (also known as the Commentary on Job, Magna Moralia, or Moralia, sive Expositio in Job), a work of biblical commentary authored by Pope Gregory I (Saint Gregory the Great) in the late 6th century. The fragment is written in late Caroline miniscule or protogothic script. It also features several holes including a large parchment flaw at bottom, while those in the centre were probably created when the fragment was reused as a limp binding.
