Patterson English manuscript collection

Collection consists of 17th to 20th century English manuscript records that were collected by Mount Royal University professor Diana Patterson. The collection contains a wide variety of personal, legal, financial, and religious records including: diaries, travel journals, correspondence, wills, commonplace books, transcriptions of philosophical and literature texts, poetry, and sermons. Patterson intended the collection to be used to teach English and History students about paleography, scholarly editing, primary source research methods, and the history of the book.

Early modern Britain collection

Collection mainly consists of books and pamphlets published in England and Scotland between 1500 and 1800. Collection contains three subject-based series: English Civil Wars, witch trials, and the Popish Plot. Collection also contains satirical prints, daily news periodicals, novels and poetry, religious texts, a cookbook, and a herbal.

Airborne leaflets collection

Fonds mostly consists of propaganda leaflets dropped from Allied and German aircraft during World War II, but also contains leaflets from other conflicts (including the First World War, Vietnam War, Gulf War) and political campaigns. The airborne leaflets targeted enemy combatants, munition workers, and civilians and were designed to undermine morale, persuade their readers to surrender or stop fighting/working, or provide access to censored war news.

Blaine Canadian sports history collection

Collection documents the history of professional, amateur, and varsity/collegiate sport in Canada, particularly hockey, football, baseball, golf, and rodeo. The collection illustrates the development of these sports in the 20th and early 21st centuries (the period from the 1940s to the 1990s is particularly well-documented), and focuses on Canadian leagues as well as international leagues in which Canadian teams participated. Most of the collection relates to Canadian teams and athletes (although American teams are also well-represented), with a particular focus on Alberta and Western Canada.

The collection largely consists of publications, ephemera, and promotional objects including: game and tournament programs, photographs, magazines, media guides, yearbooks, schedules, calendars, trading cards, game tickets, pins and buttons, pennants, patches, and decals.

The collection is arranged into 5 series by sport: hockey, football, baseball, golf, and rodeo (devoted to the Calgary Stampede). The collection was meticulously organized and documented by the donor Bob Blaine, with most of the collection housed in binders that are arranged by level of competition (professional, amateur, varsity/collegiate), league, date range, and type of material. The contents of each binder are further arranged, typically by material type and date, and many items are accompanied by detailed supplementary contextual information provided by Blaine.

Nuclear disarmament movement collection

Collection consists of pamphlets published by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and other organizations in the British anti-nuclear movement during the Cold War. The pamphlets were published to encourage activism related to nuclear disarmament, and to inform the public on related issues including the arms race, civil defence, government policy, and the threat and effects of nuclear war. The collection contains one series of Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament publications, and also contains other pamphlets published by the Communist Party of Great Britain, Scientists Against Nuclear Arms, and others.

Medieval and early modern manuscript collection

Collection consists of manuscript (written by hand) books, book fragments, and documents, predominantly from the medieval and early modern periods. Most items were produced in western and southern Europe (France, England, Flanders, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Spain), while others originated in Asia, northern Africa, the Middle East, and Russia. Many leaves are illuminated and feature decorative initials, borders, line fillers, marginal illustrations, etc.

The collection is arranged in series by manuscript type: books of hours and prayer books, liturgical books (containing leaves from psalters, breviaries, antiphonals, and graduals), charters (legal records), Bibles, and canon law.

Canadian Cold War pamphlet collection

Collection consists of pamphlets published by the Canadian government and other organizations during the Cold War, mostly concerning the threat of nuclear war. Pamphlets were published by the Government of Canada, Combined Universities Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and others. The collection is arranged into five series, and subjects include civil defence, the anti-nuclear movement, nuclear war, survival planning, communist threats, and Canadian Army training. Other items discuss radioactive fallout, rescue operations, and first aid.

Fast Forward Weekly (FFWD) collection

Collection consists of a near-complete print run of Fast Forward Weekly (FFWD), a Calgary-based local news and entertainment weekly newspaper that was published from 1995 to 2015 by Great West Newspapers Limited Partnership. The 934 newspaper issues in the collection are bound in volumes in chronological order. The collection also contains one series of CD and DVDs containing digital photographs, articles, and web page images created by Fast Forward Weekly's staff for the newspaper.

"Fast Forward Weekly (FFWD) was a news and entertainment weekly which provides news, alternative viewpoints, entertainment information, review articles and specialized advertising. It was distributed throughout Calgary, Banff and Canmore. It is owned by Great West Newspapers, LP. With an assessed readership of 70,000 upon a distributed circulation of 30,000, the paper was one of the most widely circulated and well-respected alternative newspapers in Canada."
