Medieval and early modern manuscript collection

Collection consists of manuscripts (books, leaves, and documents written by hand), mostly from medieval and early modern Europe. Most items were produced in Western and Southern Europe (France, England, Flanders, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Spain), although a few are from the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Many leaves are illuminated and feature decorative initials, borders, line fillers, etc. Most are in Latin, although a few are in medieval vernacular or other languages.

The collection is arranged in series by manuscript type: Books of hours, liturgical books (contains leaves from psalters, breviaries, antiphonals, and graduals), charters, Bibles, and canon law.

Collection illustrates the early development of movable type printing in Europe. Collection consists of printed books including a book of hours and a collection of Chaucer's works, as well as leaves from Bibles, hagiographies, liturgical texts, and works of history, literature, canon law, and botany.

Collection consists of 17th to 20th century English manuscript records and publications that were collected by Mount Royal University professor Diana Patterson. The collection contains a wide variety of personal, legal, financial, and religious records including: diaries, travel journals, correspondence, wills, commonplace books, transcriptions of philosophical and literature texts, poetry, and sermons. Patterson intended the collection to be used to teach English and History students about paleography, scholarly editing, primary source research methods, and the history of the book.

Dorian G.W. Smith fonds

Fonds documents Smith's geological and mineralogical field work, his collaboration with mineralogists and geologists around the world, and his involvement with professional associations and committees. Fonds also contains some of Smith's personal travel writings, a 19th century United Kingdom travel journal by an unknown author, lists of expenses, lists of travel arrangements, and to do lists. Fonds consists of two series: Student notebooks and Field/work/travel notes which are arranged in chronological order.

Blaine Canadian sports history collection

Collection documents the history of professional, amateur, and varsity/collegiate sport in Canada, particularly hockey, football, baseball, golf, and rodeo. The collection illustrates the development of these sports in the 20th and early 21st centuries (the period from the 1940s to the 1990s is particularly well-documented), and focuses on Canadian leagues as well as international leagues in which Canadian teams participated. Most of the collection relates to Canadian teams and athletes (although American teams are also well-represented), with a particular focus on Alberta and Western Canada.

The collection largely consists of publications, ephemera, and promotional objects including: game and tournament programs, photographs, magazines, media guides, yearbooks, schedules, calendars, trading cards, game tickets, pins and buttons, pennants, patches, and decals.

The collection is arranged into 5 series by sport: hockey, football, baseball, golf, and rodeo (devoted to the Calgary Stampede). The collection was meticulously organized and documented by the donor Bob Blaine, with most of the collection housed in binders that are arranged by level of competition (professional, amateur, varsity/collegiate), league, date range, and type of material. The contents of each binder are further arranged, typically by material type and date, and many items are accompanied by detailed supplementary contextual information provided by Blaine.

The fonds is arranged into three series which primarily contain meeting minutes from the Board of Governors, the Board of Trustees, and subcommittees and task forces that reported to the Board. Other records in the fonds include president and principal reports, agreements, proposals, statements of revenues and expenditures, auditor reports, correspondence, and documents relating to the transition to the Lincoln Park campus.

World War I roll of honour

Item is a roll of honour commemorating the Mount Royal College students, faculty, and staff who served during World War I in the 191st (Southern Alberta) Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The roll of honour lists participants and includes symbols noting those killed in action (‘x’) and those who died of injury or other ailments (‘+’). The roll features hand painted illuminated borders, and was designed and illuminated by Stafford & Kent of Calgary, Alberta.
