Fonds reflects the development and evolution of the Mount Royal University's School of Nursing and Midwifery and the academic programs it offered. Subseries documents Department of Nursing and Allied Health full faculty meetings and Consortium of Senior Nurse Educators meetings. Nursing and Allied Health faculty meetings cover an array of topics focused around: committee reports to faculty, Calgary Conjoint Nursing Program planning, curriculum and teaching issues and development, faculty scholarship and professional development, and department and college administrative business.
Subseries consists of agendas, minutes, correspondence, memoranda, policies and procedures, surveys and questionnaires, membership lists, department objectives, and planning documents. Subseries also contains program reports from the diploma nursing; post-basic mental health; and gerontology certificate programs, as well as committee reports/updates from the Curriculum Committee; Personnel and Professional Development Committee; Policy, Positions and Promotions Committee; Computer Committee; Admissions Committee; Grad Committee; Workload Committee; and Social Committee.

Correspondence - AARN

File contains correspondence, memoranda, questionnaires, charts of prospective enrollments numbers, lists of nursing students' year of birth, draft press releases, test result summaries, draft papers and statements, information on nursing programs in Alberta, a speech, draft bill, response paper, list of AARN library resources, address by the Minister of Advanced Education, news bulletin, bibliography, and a presentation guideline.

Outside organizations and governing bodies

Series documents communications between the Mount Royal College School of Nursing and outside nursing agencies, governing bodies, and other nursing schools. Series is divided into four subseries: Universities Coordinating Council, Alberta Association of Registered Nurses, Government of Alberta, and Alberta Vocational Centre. Series contains correspondence, newsletters, news releases, reports, position papers, proposals, course modules, and nursing standards/guidelines.

The Diploma Nursing Program and nursing certificate programs

Series documents the development, promotion, and management of the two-year Diploma Nursing Program as well as the Post Basic Mental Health Certificate and Gerontology Certificate programs. Series is divided into five subseries: Program and curriculum development, Minutes, Reports, History, and Promotional materials and handbooks. Series contains correspondence, memoranda, brochures, pamphlets, curriculum design tables, student and faculty handbooks, newspaper clippings, minutes, reports, program proposals, surveys, and questionnaires.

History

Subseries documents the early history of the Diploma Nursing Program. Subseries contains books written about the program, as well as correspondence, newspaper clippings, and questionnaires.

Universities Coordinating Council

Subseries documents the interactions of Mount Royal's nursing faculty with the Nursing Education Survey Team (NEST), a body of the Universities Coordinating Council Committee on Nursing Education (UCCCNE). The Universities Coordinating Council (UCC) was created in 1966 under the Universities Act to serve as an advisory body to the Minister of Education on matters of new program approvals. NEST was first formed in 1961 by the Minister of Health for the purpose of bringing recommendations related to the training of nurses and the development of new programs to increase the supply of nurses and maintain a high level of nursing standards in the province. The authority to make regulations regarding nursing education became the purview of the UCC through the Registered Nurses Act. Subseries contains correspondence, memoranda, self-evaluations, appraisal reports, annual reports, survey results, program and course information, and NEST recommendations.

File contains memoranda, correspondence, valedictorian nominations, awards and scholarship criteria, letters of donation acknowledgement, lists of award winners and scholarship recipients, agendas and invitations for awards ceremonies, award descriptions, and an awards booklet.

Subseries mainly consists of reports about the Diploma Nursing Program and nursing certificate programs. Subseries contains annual reports, program assessments, study reports, project proposals, departmental objectives, and correspondence.

MRC Nursing Alumni Association - correspondence, financial statements

File contains correspondence, cheque authorization forms, receipts, class lists, alumni contact information, newsletters, agreements, summaries of speeches, newspaper clippings, by-laws, a list of association executives, a list of media contacts, a media release, a toast, a poem, a copy of the Societies Act, and the constitution of the Mount Royal Faculty Association.

Nursing Education Survey Team - visits, evaluation, recommendations

File contains correspondence, course descriptions, brochures for Mount Royal services and programs, forms, course evaluation surveys, committee mandates, NEST visit agendas and summaries, self-evaluation guides, admission and withdrawal figures, a philosophical and conceptual framework, an organizational chart, and a comparison of examination results.

Working party of the Post Basic RN Program

File documents the activities of the working party of the Post Basic Registered Nurse program which was formed to collect input and feedback on post RN program education and services in Alberta, and to study and make recommendations on key issues.
