Collection documents LGBTQ+ communities, organizations, activism, oppression, history, cultural events, erotic art, and trends. Collection primarily contains materials collected from Canada and the United States, but also contains resources collected as a result of Aveline’s travels around the world. Collection illustrates changing perspectives on homosexuality and homosexual acceptance from the late 18th century through the early 21st century, with the period from 1960 to 2009 being particularly well documented. Collection has a particular focus on documenting the AIDS crisis, LGBTQ+ liberation, anti-gay perspectives, sexuality and eroticism, religion, and Pride events.

Collection is divided into six series: S1 – Public health, S2 – Religious viewpoints, S3 – Erotica, S4 – Lifestyle, S5 – Political action and anti-oppression, and S6 – Historical and Aveline Research.The collection is primarily made up of publications such as pamphlets, newsletters, magazines, newspapers, academic journal articles, books, and catalogues. However, the collection also includes other ephemera such as posters, matchbooks, buttons, tourist maps, guides, correspondence, recorded radio programs, postcards, surveys, and teaching materials.

Fonds reflects Steadward's work as the first President of the International Paralympic Committee and his involvement in the development of fitness and competitive sport opportunities for people with disabilities. Fonds is divided into six series: S1 - University of Alberta and the Research and Training Centre for Athletes with Disabilities, S2 - International Paralympic Committee (IPC), S3 - Paralympic Games, S4 - Non-Paralympic disability sporting events and associations, S5 - Speeches, presentations, interviews, and publications, and S6 - International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Games.

Fonds contains correspondence, reports, minutes, speeches, presentations, papers, newspapers, agendas, meeting notes, policies, bylaws, newsletters, press releases, competition results, handbooks, budgets, rules, photographs, videos, manuals, and guides.
